Sen. Jeff Sessions, a Republican from Mobile, finally found an issue to show he can remove his lips from President George W. Bush’s ass.

Predictably, it is an issue where he can play the racist, bashing illegal immigrants and their families who can’t speak English.

Sessions made the Washington Post today with a full-blown news feature by Dana Milbank, who described the Senator like this.

“A short, wiry man with protruding ears, Sessions has become the Lou Dobbs of the Senate. He argues his points not with the courtly Southern tones of the late senator Howell Heflin (D), his predecessor, but with the harsh twang of a country tough…”

The lede?

Alabama’s Jeff Sessions sure knows how to nurse a grudge. Talking about his family earlier this year, the Republican senator recalled that “Lincoln killed one of them at Antietam.”

Now he is turning his prodigious anger on legislation the Senate is expected to approve on Thursday that would allow millions of illegal immigrants to become citizens. In the process, Sessions is taking on the White House, his leaders in the Senate, the Congressional Budget Office and business interests at home.

I stand by what I said about Sessions on July 28, 2005, when the now defunct Birmingham Post-Herald ran my letter to the editor under the headline: Sen. Jeff Sessions Embarrasses Alabama.

Do you ever wonder how he got those protruding ears?

Oh, we can see inside the Rove cranium now . . . get the libertarian base fired-up about illegal immigration, then spring the new national ID card and mandatory fingerprint identification system - greasing the skidders for more control and less freedom.

This ain’t that hard to figure out, y’all. But Bush pulls off the leader as teacher (ala Castro) in this setting - at least to those with IQs of 100 or less, or those who can barely speak English. And it was only 17 minutes long.
