A great egret, also known as the great white heron [ardea alba] fishes the Coosa River in Shoal Creek Valley near Asheville in St. Clair County, Alabama.

Ospreys Nesting in Gulf State Park

Several pairs of ospreys are now nesting in Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and the landscape is beginning to show some signs of recovery since taking a direct hit from Hurricane Ivan in 2004. We’re filing from the Dizzy Bean coffee shop in Gulf Shores after spending that night last night in the Flora-Bama Roadhouse Lounge campground after the big St. Patty’s Day party.
