Code Red Air Quality Alert Issued for Birmingham
May 23rd, 2007A Code Red air quality alert has been issued for Wednesday, May 23, for Central Alabama, in part due to smoke plumes from Georgia and Florida being carried into the Birmingham area by winds out of the southeast.
The result is an unhealthy air quality level at all air quality monitors throughout Jefferson County.
People with heart or lung disease, older adults and children should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.
