Karl Rove Skips Congressional Deadline, Again
May 12th, 2008Says He Will Answer Written Questions in Writing, Not Under Oath
Disgraced former Bush political adviser Karl Rove has thumbed his nose at Congress yet again, this time saying he will answer questions in writing from the House Judiciary Committee but refusing to testify under oath.

My only question regarding the Rove situation is why hasn’t Conyers moved to cite him for contempt yet? For Congrss to reclaim some semblance of being a check on executive power, some dramatic action needs to take place. Citing Rove for contempt, which he richly deserves, would be a good start.

Good question. Guess Rove has the dirt, or something, although what I’m hearing is that the Dems just want to use the bad publicity and negative public opinion of the Bush administration to win the election in November. Whether we will have real change on which fronts is still an open question.

RE Rove, I think Cheney back in Nixon times learned what to do to avoid the Nixonian stumbling blocks…i.e. destroy evidence (whitehouse emails). This administration has dodged accountability so far, but not the contempt of the American people. Still, true accountability would be so satisfying.

And, as an afterthought, citing Rove right now would take the focus off the never-ending Democratic primary battle, although Conyers might not care. Or, maybe he’s waiting until September or October for maximum-damage potential to the Republicans. The danger is over-thinking it and not striking when the iron is really hot.
