Hilliard Announces Community Health Care Fair

Rep. Earl Hilliard, Jr., announced a Community Health Care Fair to be held Saturday, May 15, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Mt. Hebron, Ala., from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Community Health Care Fair will offer free blood pressure screening, cholesterol screening, HIV, screening, blood glucose testing, and hearing screening. The Fair will provide food and award door prizes, as well as a Moon Walk for children.

Dr. J. Walden Retan, M.D., will hold informal discussions about the provisions of President Obama’s new health care law and what they mean for the public at large. These new provisions will be implemented on a schedule, and Dr. Retan will provide it to those who attend the Fair. Dr. Retan is the founder of Healthcare for Everyone – Alabama, an organization dedicated to health care reforms that benefit the public interest.

Hilliard urged the public to attend this important health care event and learn more about your health and how this new law affects your care. Hilliard for Congress volunteers will be there to assist you.

The Mt. Zion Baptist Church is 15 miles from Eutaw and a short drive from the Eutaw Exit 40 off I-59-I-20. Take Highway 14 to Highway 39.

Rep. Hilliard serves as the State Representative for Alabama District 60, representing parts of Western Birmingham. His colleagues in the Alabama House Democratic Caucus named him the 2008 Freshman Legislator of the Year. In addition, the Alabama Wildlife Foundation recognized him the 2009 Legislative Conservationist of the Year.

At the national level, Rep. Hilliard served as Vice Chairman of the Labor and Economic Development Committee for the National Conference of State Legislators. In 2008, Rep. Hilliard was chosen to be a 2008 delegate for President Barack Obama at the National Democratic Convention.

At home in Birmingham, Rep. Hilliard received the 2009 Rising Star and 2009 Father of the Year awards from the Birmingham Area chapter of the NAACP. He is married and has a young son and daughter. Rep. Hilliard is a member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of North Pratt.
