Anger over the health-care overhaul has led to a nearly threefold increase in recent months in the number of serious threats against members of Congress, federal law enforcement officials said. The lawmakers reported 42 threats in the first three months of this year, compared with 15 in last three months of 2009, said Senate Sergeant at Arms Terrance W. Gainer, according to the Washington Post.

When nitwits like Michelle Bachman and Sara Palin are given a stage, a microphone and millions of brain-dead sycophants, you can expect that some half-crazed nut out there in radio land is going to take them up on their wink, wink deadly insinuations against innocent people.
Nancy Pelosi should be Woman of the Year. Those two simpletons don’t even deserve the right to invoke her name.

I could get into a rant here about media effects, my area of expertise as an academic for a decade, but I think I did that the other day in my weekly column : )
When radicals with guns see their zany ideas in what they perceive to be mainstream media, in this case Fox News (anything but mainstream), on the BoobTube, it emboldens them to believe others agree with them. It swells their already deluded big heads and could trigger them to carry out violent acts.
They will not be treated as heros or patriots at the end of the day, but they may not know that — until it’s too late…
They are uninformed about the reality of news. They delude themselves.
I’ve seen several columns on the coming anniversaries of the Civil War and the American Revolution, as well as the Oklahoma City bombing and Waco. There’s one in the NYTimes today, but it’s not worth running.
I’m working up one of my own for this weekend…
