Sparks Continues Relentless Campaign Against Davis
March 19th, 2010With only two months and a couple of weeks to go before the primary vote for governor of Alabama, Fort Payne Democrat Ron Sparks continues his relentless campaign against Rep. Artur Davis of Birmingham, while Democrats for health care reform continue to protest against Davis for his lack of support for the signature legislation of the Obama presidency.
The Sparks campaign issued a press release today asking a series of questions for potential voters for the Democratic Party.
“If you consider yourself a Democrat, ask yourself some questions. Why would I support someone who doesn’t support healthcare reform even though he represents a district which desperately needs it?” Sparks asks. “Why would I support someone who voted with Republicans to give a $37 billion tax break to oil and energy companies?”
Agricultural Commissioner Sparks goes on to say:
“Why would I support someone who is making a point out of voting against healthcare even though he has not voted on half of the bills in Congress this year?
“Why would I support someone who voted to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge?
“Why would I support someone who sided with the big credit card companies over consumers?
“Why would I vote for someone who hasn’t said one word about how he’s going to get the money to educate our children?
“Why would I vote for someone who supported the bank bailout, but not the auto bailout?
“Why would I vote for someone who was named the ‘least valuable Democrat?’”
“The answer is you wouldn’t,” the Sparks campaign says. “There is only one candidate in the Democratic primary who believes in affordable healthcare, who has a funding plan to give Alabama students college scholarships, to raise revenue for improved infrastructure, a way to pay for Medicaid, a strong relationship with workers, a proven record of conservation. That candidate is Ron Sparks.”
The campaign claims, “This isn’t rhetoric. This is the truth.”
Sparks issued a challenge to any Davis supporter “to prove us wrong.”
“I have been a lifelong Democrat and I take being a Democrat seriously,” Sparks said. “I respect the party and believe in its values. That’s why I would never turn my back on the Democratic party for special interest money like Artur Davis has.”
In another press release issued Thursday, Sparks challenged Davis on gaming.
“Do you know what’s embarrassing? That a Harvard-educated lawyer would have no position on whether electronic bingo in the state is legal,” the Sparks campaign says. “Hey, Mr. Harvard, people in Alabama are hurting and you’ve done nothing. That’s embarrassing.”
“If you want to talk about an embarrassment, let’s talk about your record, Mr. Harvard,” Sparks says. “It’s not only an embarrassment; it’s a disgrace.”
Of course the Davis campaign could not be reached for comment, since the Birmingham Congressman does not reply to e-mail messages or return the phone calls of real reporters working on the Web Press, only corporate newspaper reporters and anonymous bloggers who kiss his ass.

Again, it’s probably really bad strategy on Davis’s part to run as a faux Republican in the primary. Republicans won’t be voting (presumably) in the Democratic primary; the voters who show up for both primaries will be the respective bases.
Maybe Davis should just run in the Republican primary? Heck, lots of people have run, in Alabama, on both tickets at different times: Richard Shelby, Fob James, Parker Griffith, etc. Why not Davis?
And that would make it simple for him to explain his voting record, too.

What was the “Bean-counter” ad for Patrick Cooper?
“GIVE WHITE PEOPLE A SECOND CHANCE?”
Perhaps this might work for Artur.
What a disappointment!!!
He really did NOT serve his constituents–
but he may have tingled and thrilled Spencer.
