A Yellow Bell Hints of Spring
March 11th, 2010We call this a yellow bell plant, but I’m not sure it’s the real thing, an Allamanda. In any event, in these suburban climes, this is the first blooming bush of the spring season in Middle Alabamaland…

Thanks Pam. I’m no plant expert, so I’ll take your word for it…
Forsythia, or [disambiguation] is a genus of flowering plants in the family Oleaceae (olive family). There are about 11 species, mostly native to eastern Asia, but one native to southeastern Europe. The common name is also Forsythia; the genus is named after William Forsyth.

Forsythia is extra easy to force indoors if you want early spring blooms inside. Just cut a few stems and pop them in a nice tall vase with water. In a few days you’ll have stems covered with yellow flowers. And you can make a lot of baby Forsythia plants just by bending a few stems to the ground and putting rocks on them. Forsythia stems put out roots very easily.

Nice photo, Glynn! Spring is definitely on it’s way.
