One further comment: I have no illusions and therefore no hope for the Libertarian Party to ever emerge as a serious contender for major party status.

A lot of factors go into that, primarily the LP's predeliction for endless debate that would bore political scientists, much less the voting public, and their deserved reputation for running little-known activists with kooky personalities for president. And, of course, the LP's lack of a solid and widespread fundraising base helps keem them at 1/2 percent or so of the national vote.

The Greens will come closer to being a major challenge in years ahead and perhaps there will be another party that emerges with wide appeal based on some elements of Dewey-pragmatism.

But the LP, in its current configuration anyway, is a lost cause.

OK, I will concede an electoral landslide. But not a popular vote landslide. Bill was lucky twice - Ross Perot ensured his election in 92 and the hapless Dole ensured his re-election in 92. But he never got a majority of the popular vote. Al Gore did in 2000, but the election was, ahem, misappropriated from him in Florida.

I will restrain further nitpicking.

I would say 379 electoral votes to 159 is a major landslide, an avalanche even...
