Phoenix Pastor Prays for Obama's Death?

September 22nd, 2009

Now here’s a real fine Christian idea.

A Phoenix-area pastor delivered a sermon this past Sunday entitled, “Why I Hate Barack Obama,” and he told his parishioners that he prays for President Obama’s death, according to the local Fox News affiliate.

Pastor Steven Anderson reportedly continues to encourage his parishioners to join him in praying for the president’s death.

“I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today,” he reportedly said in the sermon.

What, is he trying to get Glenn Beck’s job on Fox News?

Unfortunately, there’s no YouTube video available on this. Maybe someone will sneak in their next Sunday and shoot one…

This really gives one trust in the Christian faith in America, eh? Guess that Intelligent Design thang has just not quite kicked in yet in Arizona. Maybe in another million years or so of evolution…

I am praying that all Americans will see the value in separation of church and state. Yipes this is scary.

Interesting you should mention that. Obviously they don’t know this anymore, which is one reason I’m researching a documentary film to try to set the record straight…

Unspeakable. My belief in God has been terminated because the Lord did not strike the dweeb by lightning.

I think we can take this as proof of his non-existence…

It is not uncommon for prayers in monotheistic religions that ask for some harm to come to someone. After all, praying for victory in war is by definition asking for harm to the enemy, for example.

Anyone, especially someone calling himself a minister of faith, praying for evil things to happen to others is, in my opinion, seriously deluded if not mentally deranged. On the deepest level, this individual is caught in a world of anger and animality, trying to get relief from his own internal suffering through striking out at others.

My advice to his congregation would be to compare his remarks to the Sermon on the Mount and decide whether they want to follow Jesus’s advice about human relationships or those of this demented “minister.”

That’s the beauty of the First Amendment…

  7. Jesus Christ Says:

The ministry of Jesus of Nazareth was to the only followers who would listen to him. The poor, the minorities, and the outcast. His message was to help the common man and for people to help each other. He never advocated violence or murder- so those groups who say hateful things are clearly not Christians by any stretch. But we already knew that.

Thanks, Jesus, we were wondering if you were alive…

Oh, and BTW, if all it takes to be a Christian is to say you are one, and acts don’t matter, then I guess he qualified — just like all the other nutjobs who will secretly agree with him.

So no, I don’t think this lets your people off the hook…
