Senator Jeff Sessions About to Hit the National Limelight
July 9th, 2009Jeff Sessions on Video from 1986
In 1986, future Senator Jeff Sessions was nominated to a federal judgeship. His nomination failed in part due to the disclosure of racially insensitive comments he made as a federal prosecutor. This is just one snippet of the video. We are working on a longer story with more video to run between now and Monday, when Sessions will be the lead attack dog on the Senate Judiciary Committee taking on President Obama’s first nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor…

In a general way? As in, the remarks were generally racist in tone but not specifically racist?

We’re still trying to get a longer version of the video. The TPMMuckaker and others are doing pieces from the transcript…

Could be that Sessions is disposed, regardless of a nominee’s ideology, to make life difficult for anyone seeking a spot on the federal bench, especially the Supreme Court.
He could be thinking, “If I couldn’t have a seat, well then, nobody’s going to get one the easy way while I’m on this committee.”
I hope he will play it above board and fair with Sotomayor, but that may be all but impossible for a judgeship-spurned rightwinger.

I have phoned and written to Senator Leahy to stop the mental and emotional abuse that Sessions has inflicted on Judge Sotomyor during the hearings.
Please contact me when you have your video finished. Hopefully it will find a home on Youtube.
