Where is Buchanan coming from? He is not coming from the old, semi-libertarian right represented by folks like Robert Taft.

Rather, Buchanan hails from the ethnocentric, populist-nationalist point on the political grid. There were a number of Democrats who fit into that category in the early and mid 20th century, including George Wallace, but the nat-pops can now be found almost exclusively in the Republican Party.

They have redefined themselves as “neo-conservatives,” starting with former Marxist Irving Kristol and his son Bill Kristol, and thereby destroyed whatever credence and respect the term “conservative” may once have enjoyed.

Now to the 24,000 dollar question: why is MSNBC, or anyone else, continuing to provide people with Buchanan’s views a venue? I would expect Fox to do that, but I would hope in the future that MSNBC and CNN could do better.
