The Daily Show’s Jason Jones visits the the New York Times’ offices to find out why the last of a dying breed prefers “aged news” to today’s news.
Now, I ask you. Which of these front pages right now loads faster and has headlines to more stories that you are actually interested in reading?
New York Times
Washington Post
Locust Fork News-Journal
Yesterday, the Washington Post had blow out coverage on the shootings at the Holocaust Museum, understandable because it is a local story in DC. But yesterday and today, the Times has scant mention of it, which is odd considering the history of the paper.
In a phone conversation with a lawyer today, the subject came up of the story about a majority of Alabama citizens not being online at work or home. It was in the headlines recently, but we had it up well before the story appeared in print. That’s just one example of how we have today’s news today. In the paper, it’s yesterday’s news.
Another thing people may not realize. So you say we just link to the stories of other news organizations. Have you seen a newspaper lately? Is any newspaper filled with all original content? No. Most papers are full of AP and Reuters wire stories, stories from the New York Times wire, cheap syndicated columnists. Hmmm. That’s sort of what we have here, and you don’t have to sign up and it’s FREE!
Do you think you still need that dead tree edition, the “aged news?” Think about it…
