Senate Passes Gulf State Park Development Bill
May 7th, 2009The Alabama Senate passed the compromise Gulf State Park development bill Thursday, but the sun has not set on a debate that has raged about the fate of this most valuable piece of park land in the state.
This is a view the scene from where the old lodge and convention center once stood, before one of the most powerful hurricanes hit the Alabama Gulf Coast in the era of Global Warming and rising sea levels.
There’s more to this story than meets the eye, and some of that story will be revealed after a big local meeting in the a.m.
For now, it’s the slow season between Spring Break and Summer along the coast, and the mosquitoes and yellow flies are out in great numbers. There’s way more to report over the next few days…

Even before Glynn’s additional reportage is posted, I’ll venture to guess that all kinds of shenanigans went on behind closed doors to open up Gulf State Park to developmen.
This is why state parks should be owned and operated by an independent, nonprofit NGO Alabama Parks Trust. That will put the parks beyond the pale of politics, and beyond the reach of corrupt rent-seekers and political hacks, forever.
