Manifest Hope Arts Festival to Raise Awareness
October 13th, 2008Huntsville Festival to Highlight Barack Obama’s Campaign for Change
The Manifest Hope Arts Festival will be held this year on Sunday, October 26 from 3-7 p.m. in Lowe Mill’s upstairs theater in Huntsville, Alabama.
The Festival is the brainchild of supporters of Barack Obama and its purpose is three-fold: to educate people about Senator Obama’s message of hope, to raise money to support his bid for the presidency, and to reach voters via “get out the vote” efforts.
“The festival is an excellent opportunity for Obama supporters to join together to raise funds and awareness of his campaign,” says Ashley Long, public relations coordinator for the event. “But this is also an excellent opportunity for those who don’t know what Obama stands for to come out and learn about his policies and plans for our nation once he takes office.”
The festival includes an art auction featuring locally and nationally known visual and performing artists such as Alan Davis, Pollie Sandy, and Santa Fe photographer James Ware Pitts. Jewelry and pottery will also be available. Russell Davis, magician extraordinaire, will conduct the live art auction. Other events include performances by spoken word artists, on-site work by street artists, and musical entertainment.
Festival organizers realize that political involvement goes beyond financial contributions.
“Attendees to the festival will be encouraged to participate in a phone-banking effort modeled after one held in Denver prior to Obama’s acceptance of the Democratic party’s nomination for the Presidency,” Long says.
Attendees are asked to bring their cell phones and will be provided a list of phone numbers upon arrival at the festival.
