The Birmingham Snooze ran another in a long line of pussy-footed editorials on the darter on Saturday. It's not even worth linking to. Repeats the tennis court flooding meme from their lack of reporting and takes no position that anyone should be punished, prosecuted or fined. Dances around the issue of federal agencies prosecuting or fining local governments.

Still no official press release from the city, the Fish and Wildlife Service or the area's environmental groups. Looks like we may have to sue as a news organization to get to the bottom of why and how it happened.

From amateur hummingbird expert Bob Sargent of Clay via e-mail:

Amigo

For once we totally agree! This was not only stupid but it was criminal in my opinion. You may feel free to quote me.

Be well.

My understanding is that the flooding happened several years ago and the damage has already been repaired. Also in my understanding, the flooding was actually caused by a beaver dam on top of the man-made berm. Park services has removed the beaver dam by hand several times. Apparently this time they thought they'd solve their problem by taking it ALL out. Too bad they had ignorant people with no accountability in charge of managing this crucial habitat.
