From: Anita Darden

And the stuck pig squeals, too!

Bob, with Alabama charm just dripping, made a witty and poetic comparison between Don not testifying in his trial and Karl being asked to testify about his trial. You just wanted to say :Good one, cute.

But Bob got it wrong, really wrong, when he compared Karl Rove and Don Siegelman.

Don respected and believed in the justice system and submitted himself to it, even though he could see it was broken. He paid for that respect - it cost him his career, destroyed his finances and landed him unjustly in prison. But he is still believing and still fighting to make it right!

Karl, on the other hand, considers himself above the law. Maybe because he thinks that the law does not apply to him or maybe because he tried to poison the system for so long, he doesn't want to drink from it. There is no comparing Don and Karl. None whatsoever.

We've heard outright denials from politicians about this or that wrongdoing many times in the past, only to later discover the wrongdoing had in fact taken place. It is simply unbelievable to me that Jill Simpson would be taken seriously by so many other people if she were talking through her hat. Further, the claim that Karl Rove had nothing to do with Alabama Republican strategy or the Siegelman frame-up doesn't just strain credibility, it defies it. The Alabama GOP leaders had at had the very least read "Political Dirty Tricks for Dummies" by Karl Rove; more likely they held many sessions, in person or by teleconference, with Rove over the years.

Riley, of course, expects people who are relatively uninformed about what's going on to accept his word -- he's a good old boy, after all -- instead of the entirely logical and consistent account of events Jill Simpson provided. That tactic used to work back in George Wallace's day. I hope it won't work this time, but you never know.

Bottom line is that Don Siegelman should be exonerated and, I sincerely hope, will be, despite the silly attempts at denial and ludicrous cover up coming from Alabama Republican leaders. Fortunately, it's out of their hands now and big on the radar screen for congressional committees.
