Scott Horton Speaks on Media Reform in Huntsville
April 23rd, 2008New York attorney and writer Scott Horton talked about the problems with the press in Alabama Tuesday night before a sympathetic crowd interested in media reform. Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman was in attendance and received two standing ovations, while former Mobile Press Register Reporter Eddie Curran tried to interrupt the proceedings with a defensive rant, but was shouted down by people far more interested in what Horton had to say.

Damn, wish I could have been there. Glad Siegelman was shown some love. Giddy Curran was put in his place. Any other press show up?

Glynn,
Did you get any photos of Eddie Curran? He was immensely entertaining throughout the evening.
He twisted in his seat, snarled (literally!), interrupted the speaker, and came close to challenging another spectator to a fight.
And this guy claims he’s a professional reporter? More like professional wrestler.

The Huntsville Times has a story this morning that is a clear example of what Horton was talking about. Eddie Curran’s rants get treated as gospel along with self-serving quotes from the fake papers in B’ham and Mobile.

What a night! In the crowd were Alex Latifi, the Huntsville businessman who lost everything because he was wrongly charged by U.S. Attorney Alice Martin; Deidre Brown Fleming, former employee of Alice Martin, who has evidence that Alice Martin committed perjury in her wrongful dismissal case; and even Dana Jill Simpson, the Republican whistle-blower, who Siegelman, meeting for the first time, lauded as a hero. Eddie Curran came off as a crazed man. Scott Horton was well-spoken and knows what he’s talking about…thoroughly. What a night!

Curran is featured in a photo on the news page, and the links to yesterday’s Birmingham News story and today’s Huntsville Times story are linked under the Regional Political Roundup.
We have a little surprise in store for the Birmingham reporter we will post here in a little bit. And more from last night’s event as I savor the coffee in sunny Madison…
