Picasso’s Don Quixote

Fox 6 News in Birmingham had the story Sunday on the broadcast at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on how the independent Web Press influenced the case of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.

A news team interviewed me and Roger Shuler of the Legal Schnauzer blog this afternoon in Picasso’s Blog Bunker, a.k.a. “The Bunker.”

The sign on the door is a print of Picasso’s depiction of Don Quixote. If you don’t know what that means, well, do some Google research.

Siegelman Released from Prison; Did Bloggers Play a Role?

The reporter seemed interested to learn about how blogs work, and especially the comment feature. The post we did on the great “60 Minutes” black out in the Tennessee Valley got 99 comments, in case she or anyone else is interested. This has to be close to a record for blog comments in Alabama…

    That’s fantastic!

    I’ll go watch.

  2. Melissa Says:

Okay, the reporter was live in Centerpoint and I have no idea why. Good to see you though, Glynn. It’s nice to know too that someone at Fox 6 has a soul.

Plus, you had top billing! Wow.

    Now until 10…

  3. Glynn Wilson Says:

As we have often reported, we are based in Northeast Jefferson County near the Blount County line, just a short drive down Highway 79 from the Locust Fork River - and near Jefferson State Community College (where some of those bad, corrupt Democrats ostensibly work : )

Some call it Center Point, what used to be the half way point between downtown Birmingham and the country - Blount and St. Clair Counties. In the 1960s, it became the White Flight suburb. Now, the out migration from Birmingham is here, while the White Flight has continued toward Pinson and Clay and Trussville and further out in Blount and St. Clair Counties.

Of course half of the houses in Center Point are empty now, thanks to Bush’s recession and the balloon mortgage loan crisis.

Excellent. Keep up the good work!

The Tudors premieres tonight on SHO starring Glynn Wilson. I mean look at the shades and the cool newsroom set; nifty production design on a medium budget and as always succinct in dialogue. Good show Glynn.

  6. birminghamhomeboy Says:

The reporter sounded and looked clueless. What young person doesn’t know how a comment section on a blog works? Hasn’t she heard of Facebook and MySpace? Duh!

I’m so proud of you guys. Keep up the good work!

  7. Glynn Wilson Says:

The 10 p.m. report was more complete. She did a great job : )

  8. Melissa Says:

She did do very well at 10. (Even though they didn’t bother to rewrite a lead.) And you got top billing twice. Not bad.

I must say you have really hit the nail on the head on the Alabama problems and what is happing to the citizens of the united states in Alabama. I was a victim of the disgusting officials, federal and local state goverment the amount of pain they had inflicted on me and my family was a discrace adding to my diabilty , I was vitim of politics, I have written many many emails to Alice Martin pledding and begging for help and to no avail were never answered, I first thought that it was that I was a Yankee in the south, I never seen it comming, I could not go to any federal or state official for help even though I tryed. my rights were stomped on and my name smeared though the mud to say the very least, now I guess George Bush thinks that I should just suck it up , I feel gang raped by the same united states that my entire family served and fought for my freedom and liberty. yes I do agree that they would be rolling in there graves to see what they were fighting and died for.what happened? why does Bush think he has the right to do this to me and my family, How am I to live with what was done to me.? I am still under there thumb I can’t get the social security that I deserve still fighting 3 years now. I have two chronic pain diseases that they made worse.no one cares that this was done to me.I went to the FBI , they said that they are there for bank robbers, went to the united states attorneys office spoke with a few assistants they said that they were there for the President not me. I wrote a few republican [my big mistake] I went to the federal court to press criminal charges and they said that I couldn’t press criminal charges on the officals that violated me the united states attornys office does that, so I filed for civil to seek some sort of justice and that was threw back since the court clerk said that 1983 was a criminal and not a civil code, I am not a lawyer nor even finished high school, I am a disabled white american in need of justice. believe me I AM STANDING WITH YOU.. WILLING TO FIGHT TO THE END TO GET OUR RIGHTS AND UNION BACK THAT WE SO NEED.thats in a nut shell theres way too much to write. I am sure that I am not the only one out there that has been perscuted by our own justice system. Barbara Back

    Glynn,
You should do a story do a follow up story on how they are trying to take Rogers house and shut down his blog.

I noticed the reporter didn’t give an URL to the blogs, I’m going to stand by my clueless description for now…

  11. Cissy Says:

Great job, Glynn & Mr. Shuler! I believe we can safely say Governor Siegelman appreciates his story getting out of this state and into places where there is still light, intelligence and conscience. The importance of your contribution cannot be relegated to a few minutes on TV following the question: “Did bloggers play a role…?”, however, for your unrelenting coverage of this case is supremely important. (We all deserve some back-patting as well for our calls, letters, postings on others’ sites, etc.) You are an online newspaper, and we are so grateful to you.

The day of The Announcement, I was passing by the TV about 10 PM and turned on the local news to see if it would be mentioned. CBS had a basketball game running, so switching to another channel put [a desk guy] on the screen in his head rug with a disapproving, digsusted expression. This story needed some time devoted to background; however, he only mentioned something like “corruption.” Then a switch to a reporter (maybe she was in the Five Points South area) asking what our fellow Alabamians thought. From most responses, it was clear that people had NO CLUE what the case or the day was about–”If he’s guilty, he ought to be in jail” etc. The day’s announcement was that Governor Siegelman would be released from prison while his appeal was being prepared and to testify before Congress. The people did not know that and still do not know that (unless they saw you and Mr. Shuler last night) BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD ANYTHING TRUE ABOUT HIS CASE!(Yes, I’m shouting.) This is a big example of how the print and broadcast media are letting themselves be used as propaganda tools. Anyway, I posted an objection on that [rug-wearing desk guy's] comments section, but it did not appear because comments have to be approved and mine was too strong, I guess.

Hooray for you and Mr. Legal Schnauzer, hooray for me and the rest of us!!! Darned good folks–wow.

  12. Yana Davis Says:

Great work, Glynn. Hope you re-consider doing that book proposal we’ve discussed. With your demonstrated ability to turn the media spotlight on things, nationwide at that, the book should be a best-seller even if Remlap Press publishes it.

  13. Glynn Wilson Says:

Thanks, but sorry, I am not a rich guy writer with the resources to write a book on civil liberties or the Siegelman case without an advance or a grant to cover the up front expenses of taking the time to do it. That’s the reality.

If a New York publisher wants me to write a book about this, they are going to have to pay a significant advance. Otherwise, I will spend my time building up the blog traffic and selling blog advertising and looking for other stories to cover.
