Good Friday Full Moon Over Gulf State Park

March 22nd, 2008

The wind finally calmed down in the Gulf State Park campground Thursday night and into Good Friday morning, making it possible to set up the tripod and get some shots. I am running into a lot of old friends in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach and thinking about setting up a beach beat bureau for the Locust Fork News and Journal or maybe even a new Website for real news in this area. All the newspapers and Websites here are full of nothing but PR. There’s not much in the news the past few days, which is a good thing for spring breakers here on what we used to call Pleasure Island. Not sure if anyone uses that name anymore, but one thing is for sure. The wall-to-wall condos on the dune line on this thin sliver of beach just keep going up taller and taller, some of them now reaching 30 stories. Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, there was a limit of 14 stories, proving that in the absence of an aggressive press, the money grubbers will destroy the environment every time.
