And, Paine was famously atheist, as you probably know. He once described Christianity as a "parody" of pagan "sun worship."  No surprise he's never mentioned by fundamentalists when citing the religiosity of our founding fathers. Neither is Jefferson, a confirmed deist, etc. Most of the religious rightists would have heart attacks if they knew what many or even most of the founders believed, or didn't, by way of spirituality.
