Carole and Don Markum of Marion, North Carolina, pick york apples at the Historic Orchard at Altapass along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Some of the apples made for one of the most scrumptious pies I’ve ever tasted. I had it for breakfast and lunch for two days. If you are looking to tour the area or buy some real estate, Don Markum is the go to guy.

    WOW!!

    You are awsome.

With your connections, what are you planning next?

Your cable is on the way tomorrow.

Look forward to your next visit.

    Thanks y’all.

Not sure what’s next. Went hiking on Ruffner Mountain Sunday.

We need to get back to North Carolina one more time before winter sets in, and then head back down to the Choctawhatchee River basin for one more try at finding the ivory-billed woodpecker.

We also need to get out on the Black Warrior River to get photos for a story I’ve been planning about that river basin so close to home.

We need to get back to Virginia and Maryland for a visit, especially if power changes hands in D.C. on Nov. 7.

And we will be heading back down to New Orleans at some point for an update from that outpost.

Our bureau in the Great Northwest is about to gear up, so a trip to Portland, Oregon, is not out of the question in the next year - if we can put together the budget to do it…
