Still No Accountability for Abu Ghraib
April 29th, 2005A year ago the first horrific pictures from Abu Ghraib surfaced.
“The administration attempted to gloss over their inaction by did little to acknowledge this day, choosing instead to announceing a revised Army interrogation manual. The effort rings hollow as it does not apply to those people that they choose to call ‘enemy combatants’ nor would the CIA interrogators or private contractors have to abide by these rules,” says Amelia Field of EndTortureNow.org.
As New York Times op-ed columnist Bob Herbert wrote: “Under Commander in Chief George W. Buush, the notion of command accountability has been discarded. In Mr. Bush’s world of war, it’s the grunts who take the heat. Punishment is reserved for the people at the bottom. The people who foul up at the top are promoted.”
To commemoratethe anniversary, Human Rights First created a short flash movie, highlighting documenting the how hypocrisy of this administration that strongly condemned torture and has done little to fix the problem. Hit the link to check it out in a new window.
